Dave Elanik is presently the Director of Community Engagement with the Alberta Centre to End Human Trafficking in Persons, where he provides strategic leadership in developing coordinated, survivor-focused responses to human trafficking and sexual exploitation across Alberta. In this role, he works closely with law enforcement, government, Indigenous communities, health and social service agencies, and community partners to strengthen prevention, intervention, and survivor support efforts across the province.
Dave brings 38 years of community safety experience, including 36 years with the Edmonton Police Service, where he served in a variety of frontline, supervisory, managerial, and executive leadership roles. His career included leading large-scale operational, intelligence, emergency communications, and community safety initiatives, as well as developing integrated response models to improve outcomes for vulnerable individuals and communities.
Prior to joining the Alberta Centre, Dave served as Director of the Integrated Emergency Communications Centre project with the Grande Prairie Police Service, where he led the development of an integrated public safety communications and community safety response model that supports collaboration among police, fire, municipal enforcement, and social services.
Throughout his career, Dave has been committed to advancing collaborative, community-based approaches that ensure people in need are connected to the right help at the right time. His current work focuses on strengthening provincial collaboration, developing coordinated pathways of care, enhancing education and awareness initiatives, and improving access to timely, comprehensive supports for survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
